Job DESCRIPTION
Collects human clinical specimens using established, approved laboratory methods in a safe and efficient manner. Interacts with patients, physicians and hospital staff members in a professional manner. Serves as receptionist for patients and hospital staff conducting business with the laboratory. Performs clerical duties as needed to create, maintain and communicate patient data to health care providers.
Job REQUIREMENTS
Education:
High School education or equivalent required. Training in an approved school or program of phlebotomy is preferred, but on-the-job training and experience will be evaluated through display of job knowledge and skills.
Experience:
6 months experience in phlebotomy is preferred. Position requires knowledge of medical terminology and familiarity with clinical laboratory policies and procedures related to specimen collection and processing. Work is performed under the direction of a medical laboratory technologist, supervisor, or director. Other required abilities include: entering and retrieving data from laboratory information system, excellent communication skills, and interaction with the public and medical/nursing personnel, handling multiple priorities, and managing stress effectively.
Licenses/Certificates:
Must have a current BLS certification prior to hire date. Must be approved by the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association.
