Position Description

Storeroom Solutions, Inc. (SSI) provides comprehensive maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO) material purchasing and storeroom management services to large industrial plant customers. Company employees, working within clients’ storerooms, purchase, receive, and issue all indirect/MRO supplies directly to plant personnel. Our nationally recognized MRO Inventory Management Company has an opening for an MRO procurement professional with experience in pharmaceutical, food processing or similar regulated industrial settings. The ideal candidate must have recent experience in sourcing indirect materials commodities such as: lighting, air/water filtration, PVF, and other related maintenance items.

Responsibilities of Position:

The Buyer takes responsibility for procuring approximately 1.5 million dollars annually in non-manufacturing Maintenance, Repair and Operations (MRO) facilities maintenance materials utilizing Maximo and Storeroom Solutions, Inc.’s proprietary software program. Reporting to the Site Manager, the Buyer performs as part of a team providing materials sourcing and procurement services for a specific client location. Principal duties are to identify purchasing requirements from reports and requisitions; select approved suppliers based upon price and availability; place and expedite orders to ensure prompt delivery and implement contract strategies from commodity managers, as needed. Buyers ensure that materials are accurately received in the client’s system and that orders and other communications are processed in accordance with Company and Client purchasing policies and procedures. Further, Buyers work with suppliers, client and Company personnel to resolve supply issues, track vendor reliability and performance as well as product/material quality. Successful Buyers must develop and maintain strong client relationships and keep an open line of communication to all of the Company’s stakeholders. The main challenge of this position is to maintain and control all aspects of purchasing in a cost-effective manner while communicating with the client’s employees and Company’s management team.

Buyers must undertake a team-working attitude, assist in training and developing personnel, produce necessary reports and communications in a timely manner and perform other tasks as required to satisfy external and internal customers. Good problem solving, organizational, and assertiveness skills, as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to function in a demanding, fast-paced environment are all necessary for success in this role. A “client first" attitude is essential.

Job Requirements

Experience in purchasing multiple indirect/MRO commodities Experience in logistics and inventory management Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills Must speak, read and write English Ability to multi-task Ability to define strategic plans/concepts, as well as, execute daily tasks Strong goal attainment orientation with a team focus Excellent analytical and negotiation skills Self-starter, possessing a high degree of self-motivation, bias for action Demonstrated problem solving and time management skills 


Candidates with the following skills and knowledge will be given preference:

4-year college degree is preferred; certification in purchasing (CPM) a plus Pharma/Food experience preferred- GXP awareness helpful Mechanical aptitude MRP system experience Excellent verbal and written skills Proficiency in the use of personal computers, email software; internet browser (i.e., Internet Explorer), printers, copiers, and facsimile machines Three to five years MRO procurement experience Experience and familiarity with inventory control, receiving, and shipping processes Experience in developing and managing suppliers
