JOB DUTIES
Leads, provides technical leadership, and reviews the work of team(s) that perform specialized GAAP and/or Statutory accounting work for the development of accurate financial statements and reporting through the maintenance of general ledger accounts, account reconciliations, journal entry preparation, and monitoring of information systems.
Management of accounting issues, accounting pronouncements and special projects, ensuring accurate and timely resolution of issues as well as participation in and contributions to high profile workgroups, senior leadership, etc.
Provides leadership for internal control over financial reporting.
Ensure responsive customer service is provided to other areas of Finance including Corporate Development, Corporate Tax, Banking and Investments, Financial Performance and Analysis and Actuarial.
Works through complexities associated with coordination across multiple areas, conflicting efforts, and limited resources.
JOB REQUIREMENTSBachelor’s degree in Accounting6 or more years directly related work experience in accounting and/or finance, including but not limited to, financial statement preparation, analysis, and operations3 or more years of direct management experience leading a financial and/or accounting team3 or more years insurance experienceUnderstanding of Model Audit Rule (or Sarbanes Oxley) Knowledgeable about and prepared to stay current with financial issues managed by other areas in the organization in order to properly address accounting issues and financial statement impact. Remain current with financial authoritative accounting pronouncements (GAAP and SAP) for industry and regulatory reporting requirementsTeam-oriented with a strong demonstrated ability to lead and manage complex financial and accounting projects across functional lines. Ability to work with minimal supervision and demonstrate strong financial and analytical skills. Ability to communicate, presentation, and educate highly detailed and technical financial information in a concise and understandable way to various levels of management. Excellent written communication skills including formal business and technical writing required, as well as high quality consulting and facilitation skills to diverse business and technical audiences. Knowledge of financial and compliance regulations governing the insurance industry.CPA certification required
