The ensures accuracy with billing, consistency and efficiency in relation to code assignment. The Billing / coding supervisor performs quality reviews for coding staff as well as vendors in order to validate appropriate billing code.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Oversees billing functions including implementing new goals and procedures. Supervises staff members by directing workflow, training and evaluating performance. Writes, generates and evaluates a variety of reports for financial and managerial audits. Initiates audits based on evaluations to ensure compliance are appropriate. Develops and coordinates the billing processes between staff members and outside vendors Monitors the charge-adjustment-receipt structure and initiates changes or improvements. Delegate assignments and projects to staff Establish new billing policies and procedures  Create and distribute operational and billing reports to management  Responsible for EDI submissions as well as the vendor relation that supports Billing and testing. Performing annual reviews design and revise policies and procedures. Additional responsibilities include monitoring governmental and insurance industry information for correct code assignments, training coding staff, providing educational seminars for health care staff to clarify supportive documentation for code assignment and working with the billing department to ensure appropriate reimbursement for codes assigned. Coding supervisors also compile data reports for meetings, serve on a variety of committees and attend professional meetings Knowledge of medical terminology Expert HCPS and CPT Coder Interpersonal/human relation skills Supervisory and organizational skills Verbal and written communication skills Ability to establish priorities Ability to maintain confidentiality

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises assigned staff within the assigned department. Participates as a member of the leadership team, establishing organizational goals, and driving results. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.  RequirementsEducation Requirements

An Associate’s Degree (A.A.) from an accredited college or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Must be a certified coder and maintain CEUs annually

Experience Requirements

Four years medical billing experience plus 3 years of billing supervisory experience or equivalency required. CPT and ICD9 coding, medical terminology and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required.

Skills/Abilities

Ability to develop, supervise and lead a team.  Ability to interact effectively with all level of management and staff is required. Ability to communicate effectively, both written and orally.  Ability to handle multiple projects in a customer service oriented environment. Ability to operate within Microsoft Office Suite applications to include MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel, PowerPoint and MS Access at an intermediate to advanced level. Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, the product/service line provided by Access MediQuip. Ability to read and decipher operative notes and identify items used for procedure.
