TAXICAB DRIVER - BE YOUR OWN BOSS!
(Independent Contractor)

Thank you for your interest in becoming a Taxicab Driver with Mears Transportation Group. Please take a few moments to review this business opportunity and the explanation of how our Taxicab system operates.

APPLICATION:
The first step in the process in becoming a Taxicab Driver is completing an application. All applicants must be at least 21 years of age and hold a valid Florida driver's license. All applications will be reviewed by the company. The most qualified will be selected for interviews.

ORIENTATION:
If you are selected, a motor vehicle report and criminal background check will be performed.  If both are acceptable, you may attend our 2-day Orientation Program.  You will receive program materials that will include a driver reference manual, an Orlando Metro Street Atlas, and other materials needed while contracting with us. These materials and your time in the Orientation Program will prepare you to be successful in operating your own Taxicab Service.

DRIVER PERMITS:
You will need to obtain a City of Orlando Vehicle Driver Permit before you can drive a company vehicle.  You may also be required to obtain an Osceola County Vehicle For Hire permit. The process to obtain both permits will be explained during the 2-day Orientation Program.

CONTRACTS:
Upon completion of the above Orientation Program, you may enter into a service agreement with City Cab Company of Orlando, Inc., as a self-employed independent contractor. Through this agreement, we would provide you with a late model taxicab. The company provides applicable auto insurance, vehicle maintenance, airport parking fees, and all vehicle permits.   As independent contractors, you may choose to work your own clients, company contracted properties or clients from our computerized dispatch system. We contract with major hotels/resorts on whose property our drivers wait to transport their customers to and from the airports, major attractions, restaurants, convention centers, and other major points of interest. In addition, we have a sales team and operations call center that provide our drivers with fares through our computerized dispatching system. Our taxicabs are authorized to operate in the City of Orlando and the tri-county area on a metered system. Cash and credit card fares are collected by the driver, who also provides change when necessary. You pay for your vehicle and fuel at the end of your work day, not up front.  At the end of your work day, your profit (take home amount) is your income (total of your fares) less expenses (the cost of the vehicle, fuel used, tolls, etc.). Customer gratuities are at the discretion of the customer; however, they are common when good service is rendered.

Upon completion of the Orientation Program and obtaining the required driver permit(s), all choose from our eight vehicles start times:  5 a.m.-5 p.m., 5:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m., 6 a.m. - 6 p.m. and 10 a.m.-10 p.m., 5 p.m.-5 a.m., 5:30 p.m.-5:30 a.m., 6 p.m.-6 a.m. and 10 p.m.-10 a.m. The prices vary for each twelve-hour period.
