HCE LLC- located in Manhattan, New York, provides Medicaid eligibility services to the New York metropolitan area. The firm’s clients range from independent health care providers to major medical systems. HCE maintains a consistent reputation for superior results and client-focused services, and has done so for the past seventy years.  The firm is currently seeking  Financial Counselors to join our firm for assignment to a Westchester County hospital engagement.

Description

The successful  Financial Counselor, under general supervision, will interview patients and/or their relatives to evaluate the patient’s insurance coverage, if any; evaluate eligibility and prepare applications for various government programs such as Medicaid, Family or Child Health Plus, etc.  Work also involves follow-up actions to collect required documents and interacting with family members and healthcare providers in a hospital setting.

 

Duties

Interviews patients at bedside and post discharge to determine insurance coverage and to secure all required signatures, authorizations and required documents. Obtains from patients, family members and other related parties, pertinent data regarding insurance or Medicaid coverage in accordance with established procedures Develops applications for Medicaid or Charity Care for patients in need Interacts with local county Social Services Departments to process and verify eligibility of patients for Medicaid Refers to hospital records and other related forms to document data to complete billing process Confers with physicians or other hospital staff members to collect information and appropriate forms required for submission to Medicaid and other third-party payers Reviews denial of benefits from Medicaid or third-party payers and takes action to appeal on behalf of patient Uses computer applications such as Microsoft Excel and Word or other automated systems such as online recording of notes, word processing, e-mail and database software in performing work assignments Accesses protected health information (PHI) in accordance with hospital and governmental assignments   May perform other incidental tasks as needed

 Requirements

Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent required Two years experience where the primary function was Medicaid eligibility, credit and collection, billing,  insurance or similar work Knowledge of Medicaid and various forms of insurance coverage available to patients Ability to interview patients and their families with sensitivity and professionalism to be able to extract information about their insurance or Medicaid coverage and request appropriate documentation Ability to establish and develop effective working relations with other hospital divisions and county Department of Social Services offices Ability to effectively use computer applications such as systems to record case notes and actions, word processing, calendar, e-mail and database software in performing work assignments Ability to read, write, speak, understand and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the essential duties of the position, with bi-lingual Spanish a definite plus. Good judgment, tact, initiative, resourcefulness, physical condition commensurate with requirements of the position
